Course Catalog Description
This hands on course covers the fundamentals of Structured Query Language (SQL). SQL is an ANSI (American National Standards Institute) standard computer language for accessing and manipulating database systems. SQL works with database programs like MS Access, DB2, Informix, MS SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, etc. Designed for staff new to SQL, the course begins with an overview of SQL and how SQL statements are used to retrieve and update data in a database. Students will start by creating basic select statments and progress into the more detailed and complex features of SQL. This will include using keywords such as SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, INSERT, WHERE, and others. In addition, course will cover table joins, sub-queries, if and case statements, cast and covert staments and much more. The queries presented will use Microsoft SQL Server

Course Catalog Description
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of Web Portals using an open-source web portal interface. It provides an overview and hands-on experience of how Web Portals works. The course will cover basic Web Portal concepts such as search and navigation, information integration, personalization, and integration of applications. The course will cover Web Portal functionality and its key features and provides students the ability to take advantage of the open source portal interface. Through lab exercises students are also shown how to install, configure, administer and maintain a web portal. In addition, students are shown how to add skins, containers and third party modules to change the look and feel and enhance the portal functionality. Students will end class with a fully functional web portal site.

Course Catalog Description
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of Geographic Information System (GIS) using ArcGIS software package. It provides an overview and hands-on experience of how GIS works. The course will cover basic GIS concepts such as map characteristics, projections, special data models, relational databases and spatial analysis. Students explore GIS through ArcGIS's interface. The course will cover ArcGIS’s basic functionality, sources of data and metadata and provides students the ability to quickly take advantage of the software’s display and analysis capabilities. Through lab exercises students are also shown how to create, edit, and display themes as well as query and analyze geographic and tabular data using ArcGIS. In addition, students are shown how to create presentation-quality maps and charts. The course wraps up with a brief look at various GIS Extensions and the future for GIS.
