Database development follows a distinct life cycle consisting of several steps. The following are a listing of those steps:

  • Analysis -The separation of any data entity into its component elements which is called Data Analysis.
  • Modeling & Design -This is followed by usage of common data modeling techniques to present the single or multiple subject areas of data in detail.
  • Implementation - The data storage implementation in any relational database follows the blueprint established in the data model.
  • Viewing - The database implementation frequently provides different ways to present the stored information to a target audience, enabling them to make business decisions.

Additionally, data and database tune-ups are required to keep pace with continuous changes that occur in the business (Maintenance), leading back to the Data Analysis phase at the beginning of the life cycle.
